FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Is there anything I should do before you visit?

A: Yes. Make sure that your horse is in a quiet area for me to work preferably a stable, to allow him to relax throughout the treatment. If a stable is not available, then tie him in a quiet area where there is little distraction. For dogs a quiet area in your home is preferable, please ensure they have a collar on and remove toys.

Q: Is there anything I need to do before I arrange an appointment?

A: As a complementary therapist I require the permission of a vet, therefore could you please call your vet before I arrive to make sure they are happy for me to carry out the treatment. I will ask you to sign your horse or dog's record to say you have done so. I do not usually need to speak to your vet, unless they ask.

Q: Does my horse/dog need to be clean?

A: Yes, fairly, they do not need to be immaculate but if you could please clean off wet mud and brush off as much dry mud as possible this will allow me to palpate their body more easily.

Q: Do I need to be there?

A: Ideally yes, especially if I am seeing your horse/dog for the first time. If you cannot be there, please let me know when you book your appointment so that you can give me your horse/dog's history over the phone. I do require someone to be there throughout the treatment for insurance purposes and also to walk and trot up your horse/dog. Please note, I do not bring in or turn out horses as I am not insured to do so. For massage sessions if your horse is calm and quiet I am happy for you to leave me to carry out the treatment and I understand it can be a long period of time to be holding your horse.

Q: What reactions, if any, will my horse/dog have after treatment?

A: Each individual animal responds differently to treatment. Many animals feel better straight away, moving freely and pain free. Others however, can feel tired, stiff or sore for a day or two, this is due to lactic acid and natural toxins being released and removed from the body. After the treatment it is best to keep your horse in, if they are quiet, for at least a few hours to allow them to relax on their own. On average, the more chronic a problem then the longer it takes for the body to rebalance, but this is not always the case. When you first start riding your horse after treatment they can feel different as they are pain and restriction free and they may be able to perform movements that were once to painful to carry out.

Q: What if I need to cancel my appointment?

A: If you need to cancel your appointment I do ask for 24 hours notice to be given to allow me to book in other clients, if you cancel after this time a charge of 50% will be applied.

Q: What if I miss my appointment?

A: Any appointments missed will be charged at the full price of the treatment.

Q: How can I pay?

A: I accept cheque or cash at the time of the treatment.
